I’m often asked every day, “What can I do?” to help in the current climate by white people. It’s been over two weeks and only twice have I given an answer but I have settled on one. It is the most important action that any race can take. I will save that for another post.

If you read that image and your response isn’t “WHAT THE FUCK?” then I need to demonstrate the kind of help that I need from you. I need to show you what you can do: COMBAT THE DISTORTED NARRATIVES shared by your friends and families. Make them uncomfortable. I do implore you to use wisdom. You do not have to seize every opportunity. They just need to be aware that someone on the same side disagrees. Same side = white. Same side = male/female. Same side = party affiliation

If it doesn’t come from you then they’re not going to listen.

Concerning the image, let’s look at the fuck of it. There is that thing that people do where they choose inaction on the real issue by turning the conversation into something else. This is a distorted narrative. We can break apart the usage of it without denying the message. We will just expand upon the message and point out the hypocrisy. IN EVERY THOUGHT DISTORTION THERE IS A PERFECTLY EXPLOITABLE HYPOCRISY.

1. Firemen, EMTs, construction workers, lawyers, nurses, baristas, cashiers, trash men, everyday people were there too
2. Defund the police does not mean “Abolish” or “End”
3. BLM as a movement did not exist.
4. The same injustices in NY existed then.
5. 9/11 did not change the fight for equality. It just made white Americans realize we’re all Americans:
   1. Before 9/11 – Don’t forget the Central Park 5 that happened before this
   2. After 9/11 – Don’t forget the disheartening story of Kalief Browder, a kid that was sent to Riker’s island for three years without so much as a trial. He had it so bad in there that by the time people were able to get him out, he was mentally broken. He could not recover or find himself again. He committed suicide.

Based on the context of the shared image, the point is that “people are people and we somehow we have forgotten that”. Yet, the fight against systemic racism is about the people whom the public have not stood up for.

The image goes on to make a reference to vocal entities that have spoken out in defense of injustice and systemic inhumanity against the black community. Then it says that we shouldn’t forget how we come together in crisis. So let’s speak on those things. Crisis first.

We were there for every crisis. We were there for 9/11. When will someone be there for us to help this neverending systemic crisis that we are persistent and consistent about? Do people help people or not? Where is the help for much needed reform in our crisis? Well it’s different when you’re not affected huh?

And there it is: It should also be true that you would not ignore the PEOPLE (us) asking help from PEOPLE (you) to help fix another crisis that has been a crisis (for use not you) since emancipation.

Yet you have been deaf. Yet you have dawdled and deflected. In Crisis “we’re all just people”. Not your crisis *crickets*.

Here is one of the best videos I’ve seen to date that gets it without making you read an entire course on the intended and racially defined origin of policing to the extent we’ve seen the past 100 years. The policy makers wrote and preached and championed with their own mouths a system of inequality which the police and legal system would enforce in order to maintain the concept of inferior/superior among the two dominant races.

PEOPLE need the help of other PEOPLE to get this stench out of the fabric of our country. When the majority of people don’t act against THAT and when we elect people that won’t act against THAT then it’s no longer only a systemic problem; it is a culture problem. It is fuel for a demographic divide in which those who have the power to act are also complicit by looking the other way.

It’s not about people helping people when people won’t help.

“What if” the police didn’t answer the call? No. What if PEOPLE didn’t answer the call?

Stop hiding behind a job title.

The firemen were there. Nobody protests the Fire Department. Nurses were there. Nobody protests nurses. Paramedics were there. Nobody protests paramedics. Construction workers where in the area. Nobody protests construction workers.

• We’re not protesting people who do a job.
• We are protesting a system that allows them to hide bad people to hide.
• We are protesting a system that encourages good cops to overlook bad cops.
• We are protesting a system that punishes good cops snitching.
• We are protesting a system that has been busted for falsifying lab results for thousands of wrongly convicted African American men.
• We are protesting a system that would not exonerate the same men.
• We are protesting a system that has been busted for planting drugs.
• We are protesting a system that has a history of twisting due process.
• We are protesting a system that pays private prisons to keep beds full.
• We are protesting a system that stretches an officer thin and then overlooks the job based PTSD that affects him.
• We are protesting a system that murders unarmed black men who comply.
• We are protesting a system that murders unarmed black women who have a smart mouth.
• We are protesting a system that murders unarmed black people who talk shit.
• We are protesting a system that murders

And it doesn’t matter how many times I say it, I need YOU to say it. I need you to challenge the distortions. What you can do as a white person is address it from your side to establish common ground and turn the tide of a bullshit narrative till there are none left to use or that person just admits that they are racist. At that point, you can stop. I don’t need you to fight racism. I need you to fight the lies they hide behind so that maybe one day moral conviction can reach their hearts.
